I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of Donna Boyd’s latest album, “Luckiest Girl Alive”, last week, and to my mind it marks a change of direction for the young lady based in Rouse Hill in New South Wales. Some of the songs see Donna giving a much “deeper” presentation, almost bordering on a blues sound giving more emphasis to her vocal quality. The subtle change can perhaps be traced back to her new production of David Carter, (Carter& Carter), and Adrian Hannan, whose influence in the “Pop” field is well known. The album’s number one track is, “A Good Day”, followed by, “The Luckiest Girl Alive”, two tracks which have done very well for her as singles. The rest of the tracks are new to me, but are top quality..
“Luckiest Girl Alive” marks the emergence of Donna as a song writing force with her name being in the song writing credits on every track. Donna was a finalist in the Gold Guitar awards in Tamworth in January, and this album shows us why.
