2006 saw award-winning & international touring artist, Donna Boyd in a new phase of her career:
The first single released, A Good Day not only hit #5 in the Country Tracks Top 30 Radio Chart, it also took its place high in The Music Network Country Hot 30 Chart, while her first music video clip climbed into the Country Music Channel Top 30. The second single the title track Luckiest Girl Alive went to # 3 on the Country Tracks Top 30, and the 3rd single from the album, Angels Fly Close To The Ground has just entered the Country Tracks Top 30 with a bullet.
Donna was a finalist in the Australian Songwriter Association Awards 2006, claiming 4th & 5th places out of the thousands who entered nationwide, and has received notification that she is a finalist again in 2007 with 3 songs from the album making it through, giving her acclaimed recognition as the talented singer/songwriter we have seen blossom.
A Brief History:
Born in Sydney, Donna made a name for herself on the Sydney cabaret circuit and then, at a young age, she left Australia to travel overseas, headlining shows in London, New York, Orlando, Miami and Las Vegas. Eventually she wound up in Nashville, Tennessee where her passion for country music was awakened and a new dream was born. After returning to her homeland, Donna began to compose songs, both solo and in collaboration with other fine writers such as Michael Carr, and to source new material from various writers for inclusion on her debut CD. In 2000, she released her first country music EP and received a 2001 T.I.A.R.A. (Tamworth Independent Artist Recognition Awards) nomination for Best Female Vocal. In 2002 she teamed up with guitarist Stuart French of the "Feral Swing Katz", to produce her album All Roads and by January 2003, she became the winner of the T.I.A.R.A. award, consolidating her position as Best Female Independent Vocalist.
While several singles from the album rode high on the Australian airplay charts, even more success was just around the corner. While on stage in Sydney at the Galston Country Music Festival, Donna’s performance caught the attention of the festival patron, legendary singer Frank Ifield. This led to Donna winning his coveted International Spur Award, which ensured that her recordings would be heard all over the U.K. and Europe. After reaching number two on the U.K. airplay chart, Donna embarked on a tour of the U.K. in 2004 - 42 dates in 61 days - arguably the largest tour of the U.K. that year by a visiting Australian Independent artist!
In 2005, Donna tried her hand as producer for the first time, co-producing an album of songs: I’ve Got My Standards, Vol.1 with Bob Howe, which she recorded live in the studio with a 7-piece band. This collection of songs attracted rave reviews and 2 Finalist berths at the 2006 T.I.A.R.A.s for: Best Female Vocal and Vocal Collaboration of the Year.
